5 Tooth-Friendly Holiday Dessert Ideas
October 17, 2024
The holiday season is here and that means it’s time for those annual feasts we dream about all year long. But what happens when you’re trying to keep your teeth and gums safe, yet still want to indulge in the myriad desserts that are passed around each winter? Don’t worry! You don’t have to skip sweets entirely. Here are a few delicious treats that are better for your oral health!
Rice Pudding
Not only is rice pudding more filling than regular pudding options, but it’s also lower in sugar than other desserts. If you’re not exactly a master chef, you can buy it premade at most grocery stores, or if you’re a kitchen whiz you can make it yourself and control the sugar content. You can even spice things up by adding some festive cinnamon to taste!
Apple Crisp
Apple crisp isn’t just packed with fruit, it also often contains oatmeal and walnuts, both of which are good for your teeth. You can also adjust the sweetness if you make it yourself, but generally it doesn’t need a lot to begin with.
Dark Chocolate
Dark (not milk!) chocolate is good for your heart and for your teeth, too. You can use it as an ingredient in many recipes, or you can eat it as is if you prefer. Either way, you’ll be doing something great for your body.
Cheese Boards
While you may not automatically think about cheese when you think of dessert, with so many options available to build a delicious charcuterie board, there’s no reason why this typically savory snack can’t be swapped for the regular sugar-packed options. Plus, because it’s packed with calcium, it’s already good for your teeth and bones!
Fresh Fruits
Fruit is sweet enough as is and doesn’t need anything to make it better. Why not slice up some fresh seasonal varieties and serve it with a side of optional whipped cream for dipping? It will help your body get important vitamins and minerals while keeping your teeth healthy and strong.
